Day 1-2 | Tel Aviv to Bogotá
We will take a self-organized flight from Israel to Bogotá, arriving in the evening. Upon arrival, we will explore Bogotá, the capital and largest city of Colombia. Bogotá, situated at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level, is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage. We’ll experience the city’s vibrant street life, entertainment shows, diverse Caribbean, jungle, and Andean cuisine, street markets, and more. We will stay in a centrally located hotel and have a local dinner in Bogotá.
Day 3 | Bogotá – Monserrate Lookout, Gold, and Art
After breakfast, we will embark on a city tour, exploring the colonial architecture, the historic evolution of the city since its founding in 1583, and the colorful neighborhoods. We’ll hear stories about the city’s history, stroll through the vibrant Candelaria district, and see the statue of Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, the founder of Bogotá.
Visits include the Neo-classical Cathedral, Bolivar Square, dedicated to Simon Bolivar, and the Botero Museum, showcasing works by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. In the afternoon, we’ll take a funicular to Monserrate Hill for a panoramic view of the city. After descending, we’ll explore the charming streets and markets and enjoy a local dinner.
Day 4 | Flight to the Amazon (Rio Amazonas)
In the morning, we’ll head to the airport for a flight to Leticia in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, where we’ll visit an ecological park to learn about the jungle. After lunch, we’ll join a ceremony with members of the local indigenous group, Maílkuha, who will share their art and culture. We’ll then travel to our jungle lodge, experiencing the sounds of the rainforest. Dinner and overnight stay in the Amazon.
Day 5 | Magic of the Jungle
After breakfast, we’ll explore the Amazon, searching for sloths and observing morning bird activities. We’ll visit the Mocagua community, known for its conservation efforts, and enjoy a local lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll participate in a local sculpture workshop and learn about the community’s life in the jungle. In the evening, we might take a serene boat ride to look for nocturnal animals.
Day 6 | Tikuna Culture
In the morning, we’ll explore the Amazon’s rivers, observing river dolphins and unique bird species. After lunch, we’ll visit the community of Mocagua, focusing on the conservation of Amazonian monkeys. We’ll have a local lunch with the community members and participate in a wood sculpture workshop. In the evening, we may enjoy a peaceful boat ride along the river to search for caimans.
Day 7 | From the Jungle to the Coffee Region
After breakfast, we’ll travel to the airport for a flight to Bogotá and then take a short connecting flight to the Coffee Region (Eje Cafetero). This region is renowned for producing high-quality Arabica coffee. We’ll visit a butterfly garden and a coffee estate to learn about the coffee production process. In the evening, we’ll relax in the thermal hot springs.
Day 8 | Cocora Valley, Filandia, and Salento
After breakfast, we’ll tour the Cocora Valley, known for its towering wax palm trees. We’ll explore the colorful town of Filandia with its colonial architecture and visit the charming town of Salento, known for its boutique shops and local art. We’ll continue to a butterfly garden and a viewpoint, ending the day with a local dinner.
Day 9 | From the Coffee Region to Medellín
In the morning, we’ll visit a coffee estate and then embark on a scenic bus journey to Medellín, making stops for local viewpoints and lunch. In Medellín, we’ll check into our hotel and enjoy an evening meal in the city.
Day 10 | Flower Festival (Feria de las Flores) in Medellín
Medellín celebrates the Flower Festival, featuring colorful flower displays and a traditional parade called “Silleteros.” We’ll start the day with a visit to the vibrant Comuna 13 neighborhood, known for its street art. Later, we’ll explore the main squares, participate in the flower parade, and enjoy the festival’s exhibitions, dances, and music.
Day 11 | Trip to Guatapé
After breakfast, we’ll travel to Puebla de Zaragoza, near the stunning rock formation of El Peñol in Guatapé. We’ll climb the 742 steps to the top for breathtaking views, explore the colorful town of Guatapé, and take a boat ride on Lake Guatapé. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Medellín for dinner.
Day 12 | Morning with a Local Fisherman and Flight to Cartagena
After breakfast, we’ll join a local fisherman for a morning of fishing in the Caribbean Sea. We’ll participate in a cooking workshop with the day’s catch for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll fly to Cartagena, a coastal city with a rich colonial history. We’ll explore the old town and enjoy an evening meal.
Day 13 | Rosario Archipelago and Caribbean Beaches
We’ll embark on a boat trip to the Rosario Archipelago, a natural reserve of 28 islands. We’ll visit some of the islands, enjoy the beaches, and return to our hotel at the end of the day.
Day 14 | Morning with a Local Fisherman and Return to Cartagena
In the morning, we’ll go on another fishing adventure with a local fisherman. We’ll cook and enjoy the fresh catch for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Cartagena and visit the San Felipe de Barajas Castle for a panoramic view of the city. We’ll join the festivities to conclude our Caribbean experience.
Day 15 | Flight back to Bogotá and Visit Zipaquirá Cathedral
After breakfast, we’ll fly back to Bogotá and then travel to Zipaquirá to visit the famous Salt Cathedral, an impressive underground church located 180 meters deep in an old salt mine. In the evening, we’ll return to Bogotá for a farewell dinner and a performance to conclude our journey.
Day 16 | Bogotá and Departure
After breakfast, according to our flight schedule, we’ll head to the airport for our departure from Bogotá, concluding our Colombian adventure.
