Intro
After three long years, China is opening to the public, and for us, this is also a kind of homecoming. The company that raised travel to China as an art form is proud to present the first of five different tour routes to China.
Many of us wonder, ‘Where should we go for our first trip to China?’ To tackle this question, we have condensed everything we believe is necessary and essential for getting to know China into this tour. Historical and archaeological sites, cultural sites, important museums, picturesque landscape sites that seem like they just stepped out of a Chinese landscape painting, and most importantly – intimate and authentic human encounters with those who know China and its complex and intricate history from personal experience, which they will be happy to share with you.
All of these are combined in this tour with the surprises and indulgences that characterize Dragon Path’s tours, those that have long defined us as a household name in the realm of unique journeys.
This tour is carefully crafted by those who have been closely involved in tours to China for over 30 years. We hope you find it as fascinating to read as we found it to build.
Day 1-2 | Tel Aviv to Beijing
We will depart from the airport on a flight to Beijing, the capital and cultural center of China since 1426. Upon our late-morning arrival, after passport control and customs, we will have breakfast at a hotel near the airport. After a brief orientation, we will embark on a city tour of Beijing, starting with the Olympic Park, where we will see iconic Olympic structures such as the “Bird’s Nest” and the “Water Cube.” We will then proceed to the city center for a tour of Tiananmen Square, known for the 1989 student protests.

Day 3 | Beijing
After breakfast, we will travel to the Forbidden City (Gugong), the palace complex that served as the imperial palace for Chinese emperors from the 15th century until 1911. The Forbidden City was off-limits to the general public and only accessible to the imperial family. We will explore the palaces where Chinese emperors ruled their vast empire. Following a short trip to Liulichang, the cultural center of ancient China, we will navigate through the hidden alleys of Beijing to reach Dashilar, the city’s most important commercial district in ancient times. In the evening, we will attend a Kung Fu performance by monks from the Shaolin Monastery, followed by dinner on Guijie, known as “Ghost Street,” featuring one of Beijing’s famous Peking duck restaurants.

We’ll witness locals, from the young to the elderly, engaging in morning activities like Tai Chi, morning exercises, and traditional dances. Afterward, we will head to the Summer Palace, a retreat for Chinese emperors during the summer months. Following this, we will continue to the Great Wall of China, one of China’s most famous symbols. We’ll take a cable car to the highest point at Badaling for a breathtaking view of the winding wall along the mountain ridges. We will then proceed to a special hotel located in a historic village at the foot of the Great Wall.

Our destination is the classical and traditional tourist site in China, Huangshan, representing the classical Chinese beauty for generations. We will ascend Huangshan via a cable car, climbing to its highest point through the “Valley of the Clouds.” Upon descending, we will explore the Yellow Mountain, climbing to its famous viewpoints overlooking the “Sea of Clouds,” threatening peaks, rocks, and its famous trees. We will continue our journey through the “Grand Canyon of Huangshan” along the western canyon cliffs. After the tour, we will descend from the mountain and return to Tunxi. Accommodation in Tunxi

Upon arrival in Hangzhou, we will embark on a tour of the Six Harmonies Pagoda (Liuheta), immersing ourselves in the most important religion in China and Asia – Buddhism. We will continue the tour along the shores of West Lake (Xihu), with its beautiful temples and pagodas lining the picturesque lake, connected by small bridges and walkways leading into the lake. We will proceed to Lingyin Temple, part of which is carved into the rock in cave-like grottoes, a classic example of traditional Chinese temples protected by the army during the “Cultural Revolution.”

The road to Longsheng is beautiful, passing through rice fields and tea plantations, and passing by small villages of different ethnic minorities. Just before reaching Longsheng, we will ascend to the “Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces” (Longji Titian), a mountain ridge transformed by the local people into terraced rice fields stretching from horizon to horizon, surrounded by Yao and Zhuang ethnic minority villages perched on the slopes of the hills.
